Many of these songs were written over the summer and fall of 2002. They represent a point in time where I had come to terms with my father's death and was moving forward with my own life again.

Close the Door

Written about the end of a summer romance. ‘Close the door' was her catch phrase for moving on and ending our involvement. More generally it's about how many of the relationships we have with people are not meant to last and when they end we need to let them go.

Hiding

The lyric was partially inspired by Stephen Soderbergh's adaption of the movie ‘ Solaris .' It fits with one of the central themes of the new record which is about coming to terms with love that is separated by space and time. Also it's about accepting that all we really have in our life is right now.

Beautiful Shadow

Originally influenced by a book of photos of Jeff Buckley by Merri Cyr . It's mostly about my feelings for a friend who moved away.

Silver

The title is taken from a town in New Mexico - Silver City - where a friend of mine was living at the time.

Your Old Guitar

This was inspired by my friend and fellow singer/songwriter Danielle Miraglia who sold me her guitar. The story isn't factual, but I did draw some of the images for the central character from Danielle. After all, she is a Boston girl and they never leave. Besides, I was the one who didn't stay.

Almost Real

I went to see the band The Splendid Nobodies play the night before my birthday. A friend was supposed to meet me, but couldn't get in because the club was full. I left just after midnight and found flowers and a note on my car.

Empty

It's about the sad guy at the bar that lost his love and is drowning it with beer and hoping Molly Sims will appear and take all his troubles away. It's not about a particular relationship since I've had so many that ended this way they've all blurred together.

Found (In the City)

I wrote this about playing in Harvard Square and watching all the beautiful girls walk by. They didn't always tip me but I did get my share of smiles, which was just as good. It's also about the loneliness that comes from living in a large city filled with beautiful people.

Stars

Written to a friend who moved to New Mexico.
