Beautiful Shadow Goals

Why make another record? I do it because I love it and because I feel like I have something to say. It's about telling a story – and in this case it's another chapter in my life story. In that sense it is a true “record” of things I've gone through. That alone is worth all the time and money, but there are other goals as well.

My aim is to develop myself and the band artistically and to make Blue Tree Music a viable business (i.e., profitable). With that in mind here are some specific goals both artistic and commercial for this record:

Artistic

1. Present Blue Tree as a band (as opposed to a singer/songwriter with backing musicians) – more like Wilco: band with one primary singer/songwriter

2. More experimental, less standard studio feel

3. Distinct and different statement from Reflections

4. More diverse/developed musical statement

5. Better record/listening experience from beginning to end

Business/Commercial

1. First record BT will tour/promote

2. Release on small indie label (go beyond DIY)

3. Create a local buzz for the band (PR)

4. Expand BT base beyond Boston (regionally in NE + NYC)

5. Sell 500-1,000 copies (break even or make small profit)
